Top graphic novels read in 2011

Unlike last year, this year I haven't started much new manga (which is sad really) but I did read a few good graphic novels and here is where I share them with you.

TEEN

The Amulet of Samarkand: The Bartimeaus Trilogy (Graphic Novel) by Jonathan Stroud
Adapted from one of my favourite novels The Amulet of Samarkand (Graphic Novel) is one of my favourite adaptations of the year. The story was carried over so well and nothing is left out - the wit, the true essence of the main characters or the action - it’s all here in this graphic novel for old fans and new readers to enjoy.

In the Air, volume 1 by Brenda Hickey
Read first for free on wirepop.com. I read this OEL manga straight through without pause and was most upset when I reached the end and found out volume 2 would not be posted until 2012 but no matter I have patience and loved it so much I bought the paperback...yes I purchased a self-published book (I never do this). Anyway this is a light fantasy/action/romance series filled with lovely elemental magic and loveable characters so if you're interested go check it out!

OLDER TEEN

Beast Master, volume 1 and 2 by Motomi Kyousuke
I will read anything this mangaka creates because Dengeki Daisy is a favourite read of mine and Beast Master although only two volumes long is now a favourite of mine also. This miniseries is filled with lovable characters, heartfelt moments and dynamic action scenes so go pick it up!

Knite by yuumei
A free online flashcomic that can be found here on deviantart.com. Knite is set in modern day China and centres around Sen, a dreamer who along with other kids every night put stars into the smog covered sky through their light laced kites and what happens after reality intervenes. Filled with beautiful artwork, Knite is a story about following dreams, facing reality, believing in friendship, and fighting for the environment.

Goong by Park So Hee
If you like drama and romance then this is the shojo for you. A bit more realistic than your typical shojo reads but probably five times more dramatic Goong never fails to remind me of what a soap opera might be like for older teens or can I say novella because I would hate for this series to go on forever like a soap opera, it’s already at volume 23.

ADULT

The following are only recommended for those of you who are of the age 17 or older. The following books contain many adult themes including but not limited to sexual content, nudity, crude/mature language, sensitive topic/issues/themes, and drug/alcohol use.

Freak Angels by Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield
This free online graphic novel series was recommended by a mangaka I am a big fan of so I had to check it out. It was warned as adult so I wasn't sure if I would like it all that much and there were some scenes that I could have done without but FreakAngels isn't really like anything I have read before and I recommend it to all the 17+ readers out there who love reading witty dialogue, action scenes and interesting story lines.

Storm Born (Dark Swan) by Richelle Mead
Another adult read that I have been lucky enough to read e-ARC copies of from the publisher Sea Lion Books (thank-you ^_^). This is an adult, urban paranormal series about a relatable strong female MC who kicks butt using shaman magic, filled with wonderfully detailed art, beautiful bright colouring, and great action scenes I recommend to all fans of urban paranormal novels.

Fables: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham
All of the familiar fairy tales you remember growing up with are retold in this series but it’s not the stories you remember, it’s what happens after the Happily Ever After – murder, divorce, prison, etc. There is also the interesting characters, with interesting flaws, funny dialogue and surprising twists on the old classics.
